Team India managed to defeat England by four wickets in the final of the 2022 U19 World Cup. With this, India lifted the U19 World Cup for the record fifth time. In this article, we take a look at how Twitter reacted after India wins the 5th U19 World Cup.
India lifts 5th U19 World Cup
Fielding first, India was off to a flier thanks to the twin strike by Ravi Kumar in his first two overs. Although India was chipping away at the wickets consistently, England’s James Rew held one end together. He scored a superb 95 of 116 balls which helped his team post a decent total of 189. Raj Bawa was the star for India in the bowling innings. He collected a five-wicket-haul and claimed the best figures ever in a U19 World Cup final.
With the bat, India also faced an early setback but then, with a few steady partnerships, India never lost control of the game. Vice-captain Shaik Rasheed scored a fifty along with Nishant Sindhu. Raj Bawa yet again had an important role to play as he scored 35 important runs to help India close the game. Wicket-keeper Dinesh Bana finished the game with two massive sixes.
With this, India lifted the title for the fifth time. While the country first won the title in 2000, it then won again in 2008, 2012, 2018 and now in 2022. All members from the previous winning batches have gone on to do well for the senior squad. A few in the 2022 batch, as well, are likely to break into the senior team.
Twitter reacts to the massive feat
Meanwhile, Twitter was elated with India’s performance. Before the tournament started, there were a couple of issues that the team faced. During the competition, COVID struck the Indian camp and for a few games, some key players had to miss out. Yet, the team won the tournament without losing a game.
