Quinton de Kock has shocked the entire cricketing fraternity by retiring from Test cricket. The South African wicket-keeper is just 29 years old and hence, his decision to stop playing Tests was surprising. Incidentally, he was part of the Test match which South Africa lost to India on Boxing Day. In this article, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Quinton de Kock announces retirement from Test Cricket.
Quinton de Kock announces retirement from Test Cricket
Quinton made his Test debut back in 2014. Since then, he has played 54 games for his country, making more than 3000 runs. Ever since he made his debut, South Africa has not had to worry about a reliable wicket-keeper. However, with him abruptly moving aside, the management will have a tough few decisions to make.
The left-handed batter has specified that giving ample time to his family is the reason why he has quit Tests. He said that he and his wife are expecting their first child, and at this moment, he wants to be with the people who mean the most to him. Quinton confirmed that he will continue playing in ODIs and T20Is for South Africa.
Cricket South Africa must now act quickly to replace QDK in the XI. In a few days time, they will come up against India in an important encounter. Although there are enough options, unfortunately, there is not one with sufficient experience.
Twitter is shocked with QDK’s decision
Retirement at an early age is usually linked to an injury issue or a health condition. However, Quinton has so far not faced any such problems. Hence, his retiring from the five-day format was a shocker. Twitter, too, was left surprised after the decision came out of nowhere. In the section below, we take a look at a few Twitter reactions regarding the same:

#QuintonDeKock retiring from test cricket at the age of 29 shows clearly how the priorities of cricketers have changed. With all that is happening in RSA cricket these days, it would be hard for them to find another cricketer of the same pedigree. #RSA #INDvsSA

With Quinton De Kock retiring, someone really has to begin digging into what exactly is going on with the Proteas.
In the span of one generation, they've gone from fielding a powerhouse to whatever they are now.
Aside from Elgar & Bavuma, no one looks solid in that lineup.

Should have at least finished the series with #India . Leaving his team halfway when they really need him, is not good, not good at all. #INDvsSA #SAvsIND #Cricket#TeamIndia #Cricketer— JSB7 (@realplaymaker7) December 31, 2021
