“Whole India behind you here Greavo,” Scot wicketkeeper Matt Cross encourages Chris Greaves to pull off an upset for India

Cheeky little remark from Matt Cross is going viral on social media

A video of Scotland’s wicketkeeper Matt Cross is going viral on social media where he can be heard encouraging his bowler Chris Greaves by telling him that the whole of India is rooting for him.

There is a Scotland Vs New Zealand game going on in the T20 World Cup 2021 today and the Indians fans are hugely interested in the game. It might seem a bit odd in usual circumstances, but not right now, given India’s position in the group 2 points table.

India, despite being one of the mightiest teams in world cricket, is currently positioned second last in group 2 and their chances of making it to the semi-finals seem far-fetched at the moment, but there is still a bit of chance and that chance can be enhanced if weaker teams in the group pull off a couple of upsets.

A Scotland victory over New Zealand will hugely favor India today

If Scotland beats New Zealand today, that will mean maximum New Zealand can reach in terms of the no. of points is 6, which is a mark that is within India’s reach as well and since New Zealand’s net run rate (NRR) is not that high, India can hope to surpass it at some stage.

As far as Afghanistan is concerned, India would hope that they beat Afghanistan later today and then Afghanistan loses against New Zealand as well, which will limit the Afghans to only 4 points and rule them out of the semi-final contention.

However, if New Zealand wins against Scotland today, and they go on to beat Afghanistan as well, that will almost secure their semi-final qualification as they are expected to beat Namibia considering the firepower they have.

Scotland wicket-keeper Matt Cross is well aware of all the permutations and combinations that are in the picture in group 2 at the moment and that’s why when New Zealand lost a couple of quick wickets batting first, Matt Cross told Chris Greaves, “Come on Greavo, whole India behind you here Greavo”. That little clip from the game today is doing the rounds on Twitter and is getting retweeted a lot by the Indian fans.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
