Virat Kohli faced some severe backlash after he failed to perform once again in the first innings of the third Test match at Leeds. James Anderson claimed him with an out-swinger where his cumbersome drive caught a nick off the edge and flew to the safe arms of Jos Buttler.
Kohli raised the bar so high for himself in his early days that now fans are having a hard time cutting some slack for the Indian skipper. Today’s dismissal for 7 marked the 50th innings since Kohli managed to smash his last century in International cricket.
His last century came in 2019 against an ailing Bangladesh that witnessed the grace and magnificence of the Indian skipper at its full swing. Sadly, for the Indian skipper, he has struggled to flip those starts into big ones and the fans aren’t really happy about it.
Things took a downturn when Anderson has been the tormentor-in-chief for the Indian skipper, as he bested him again. India was in early trouble with Jimmy claiming KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara early in the game.
A slight change of strategy did the trick for Anderson in the early overs. Kohli looked promising in the start but soon started tottering around as the English bowlers were all around him. Indecisive of whether to go for a drive or not, Kohli played a sloppy stroke straight into the safe hands of Buttler that marked the end of his innings.
Also to make things worse for the Indian captain, this is the seventh time Anderson claimed him in the longest format of the sport. Twitter was extremely disappointed as the Indian skipper couldn’t live up to the hype that was strapped onto him from the very onset of the game that can be very crucial in India’s campaign in the second edition of the WTC.

Half-century for Virat Kohli…
That’s 50 consecutive international innings without a century for the Indian skipper.#ENGvIND

Won't happen but Kohli ending up with a test average less than 50 would be one of the most heartbreaking things to see.

To have gone 50 innings without an international 100 is a lesser concern. The big one: Virat appears fallible inning after inning after inning. Halfway through this series, 69 runs in 4 innings, He's The Story #IndvsEng #ViratKohli
