Here is the qualification scenario for CSK if they lose final league game against DC

Chennai Super Kings have been one of the best-performing teams in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, they got the right results when it really mattered the most.

However, they were a bit unfortunate in the game against Lucknow Super Giants where the game was called off due to rain. Judging by the performance, CSK were head and shoulders above LSG.

CSK restricted LSG to 125/7 in 19.4 overs before the rain played spoilsport in the game. Sadly, CSK who were the favourites to win the game had to share a point with LSG.

Had they won that game, CSK would have qualified for the playoffs after their win over Delhi Capitals at home. They were tasked to win at least one game out of the two games to confirm their playoffs’ qualification.

However, Chennai Super Kings made their equation a bit complicated after they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the home game at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai last night.

It means that they have to win their last league game against Delhi Capitals in the away fixture anyhow to qualify for the playoffs. Now, let’s take a look at CSK’s qualification scenario if they fail to beat Delhi Capitals in the next game.

After CSK’s defeat to KKR, their top-two finish took a huge hit and it looks far from achievable, although there is a 37% chance. If they beat Delhi Capitals in the next game, they will finish with 17 points and qualify for the playoffs.

However, if they lose, then the likes of Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are the most threatening to edge past them in the points table with just one win. On the other hand, RCB would need two wins in two games to surpass CSK.

Moreover, CSK wouldn’t want to rely on the results of other teams to stand a chance. They have top-tier players at their disposal and would want to get their job done in the next game.
