“7th Captain To Defeat Jersey Number 7?”- Twitter Erupts As Faf Du Plessis Is Named RCB Captain

The wait for the Royal Challengers Bangalore fans is officially over. In the last few weeks, there was only one question in the minds of the RCB fans and that was who will lead the team in IPL 2022. Some felt Virat Kohli will return as RCB captain, while others guessed it to be Dinesh Karthik, Glenn Maxwell or Faf du Plessis.

The team management announced that Faf du Plessis will be the new RCB captain for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batter played with MS Dhoni in all of his previous IPL seasons.

His first IPL franchise was the Chennai Super Kings, and then he moved to the Rising Pune Supergiants. At both franchises, he played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, but this year now, he will make his IPL captaincy debut as the RCB captain.

Reacting to the huge announcement, du Plessis said at the RCB Unbox Event 2022:

“It’s tough to fill the shoes of AB, he is a absolute great of the game, I can’t even imagine that”. We have one of the Greatest leaders in the side as Virat Kohli. Watching those flashback and message videos has inspired me. I am excited and looking forward to it.”

Faf du Plessis was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Since he is in good form, does not play international cricket and is fit, he seems the perfect choice to be the RCB captain.
