For the Indian fans, coming into the ongoing series against England, a Rohit Sharma-ton was one of the checkboxes that had to be ticked. At the Lord’s, he came close to it but got out at 83. However, Rohit scored a hundred at the Oval and got his first overseas century. In the process, he also created a unique record on English soil.
Rohit Sharma scores a hundred at the Oval
With India trailing by 99 runs, a strong start by the openers was necessary for the team to survive in the game. The openers did just that and hence, India could erase the lead without taking too many bruises. While KL Rahul was dominant when he was at the crease, after he got out, it was Rohit Sharma who took control.
Rohit Sharma got to his first overseas ton, and he did that with a six. It was a momentous occasion, as it had eluded him for a long time. The Hitman’s knock was laden with class, and the English bowlers did not have answers for the opener’s stay at the crease. With this, India is now in a strong position to pull off a victory.
The Hitman creates a unique record
Although this was Rohit Sharma’s first Test ton in England, or for that matter away from India, the Mumbai cricketer has got a few centuries in the country in a different format. In the 2019 Cricket World Cup, Rohit had collected five centuries and was the best player for the country.

After his century at the Oval, Rohit became the first-ever visiting player to score centuries in seven different England venues. The Indian opener has got hundreds at Edgbaston, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Southampton, Nottingham and the Kennington Oval. It is a special achievement for a cricketer, who was initially not rated very highly in overseas conditions.
