Sunrisers Hyderabad had a horrible run in the recently suspended IPL 2021. They only managed a single win in seven matches. After the 6th game, the franchise decided to twerk things up and dropped skipper David Warner, handing the reigns over to Kane Williamson. One has to wait for how things turn out for SRH ahead of IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
SRH were looking like the prime contenders to qualify for the playoffs before the start of the season but a poor performance from their middle-order and lack of balance in the team structure saw them languish at the bottom. With a mega auction scheduled ahead of the IPL 2022, SRH would like to fill the holes they have and build a strong team around their core.
Let’s take a look at the 6 players SRH might target in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
1. Kuldeep Yadav
The Left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who was once a prime player is going through a lean patch, finding it difficult to secure a place in the Indian team as well as in his current IPL team KKR. But, the skill set and the variations he has under his pocket would definitely help SRH. The inclusion of Kuldeep would reduce the burden on Rashid Khan, who is most likely to be retained by SRH.
With Kuldeep being an Indian bowler, it won’t affect the overseas combination of SRH which has been an issue for them over the last 2-3 years.
2. Jos Buttler
Sunrisers Hyderabad had sacked David Warner midway into the IPL 2021, and it is highly unlikely that he be retained by them for IPL 2022.
To fill his place, SRH might look to bid for England’s wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler. The player is one of the best explosive openers in T20 cricket and his addition would strengthen the SRH lineup.
3. Navdeep Saini
Sunrisers Hyderabad hasn’t had problems in the Indian fast bowler department. But with Bhuvneshwar Kumar being prone to injuries, SRH have struggled to find the right bowling combination.
The addition of someone like Navdeep Saini would definitely boost the pace attack of SRH and would also reduce the burden off Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan if SRH manages to secure their signings.
4. Marcus Stoinis
The lack of match-winning all-rounder in the middle order has been a concern for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, they would possibly try to address that issue. Marcus Stoinis is one such player who the Orange Army can pick.
Stoinis can provide the required support in the middle order and can chip in with a few overs as well.
5. Pat Cummins
For the past several years, we haven’t seen an experienced overseas pacer in the playing XI of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Australian pacer, Pat Cummins could prove to be an asset for SRH. The addition of Pat Cummins would mean that SRH would have an experience fast bowler who can lead the bowling attack and guide the young pacers.
Pat Cummins could bring in his expertise and dexterity within the SRH camp. Adding to that, he can even be crucial with the bat in the death overs.
6. Ishan Kishan
Sunrisers Hyderabad have had issues with finding a reliable and explosive Indian opener since the exit of Shikhar Dhawan. They were using the services of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow at the top due to which they had to compromise in the middle order. The addition of Ishan Kishan would be very beneficial for SRH.
His ability to play fearless and explosive cricket could be of huge importance for SRH and that too without disturbing the team balance. Kishan can also contribute with his wicket-keeping skills.
