5 Players Fail to clear the new 2-km Run Fitness Test

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has in the recent years become more and more stringent about the players’ fitness levels, especially of the ones who are playing at the highest level, for the national team, and for measuring these, various tests are conducted. And, in one such recent test, called to be the 2-km run fitness test, a total of 5 players failed.

The era of having extremely fit and agile cricket players in the truest sense started under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and has translated into the Virat Kohli era of Indian cricket as we may call it. The man himself, Virat makes sure that he sets an example for the players himself. Now, in order to test the players’ fitness levels, a new test by the name of a 2-km run fitness test has been introduced.

‘Some players barely managed to complete the run,’ told a source

After one of the first sessions of the test, there has been news coming in that as many as 5 cricket players were not able to clear the test. As reported by Crictracker, a source told that these cricketers, who have not been able to clear the test, will be given another chance to clear the test on a later date. “Since this is a new type of a fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap. However, if they fail to clear it, then it puts their selection for the forthcoming white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home in doubt,” told the source.

The players who are named to be a part of the 5 names who have not been able to clear the 2-km fitness test, are Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Siddharth Kaul and Jaydev Unadkat. There had been reports of Ishan Kishan not being able to clear the test, but the wicket-keeper batsman made things clear when he put out a story on his Instagram handle, saying that he had cleared the test.

It was also brought to notice that this 2-km run fitness test consists of different levels, as per the specialisation of the player, according to the source that was quoted earlier. The person said, “In this test, a batsman, wicketkeeper, or a spinner has to complete the two-kilometre distance in eight minutes and 30 seconds, while for a fast bowler, the benchmark is eight minutes and 15 seconds.”

The test seems to be a hard one to clear as it was also added in, that there were a bunch of players who did barely managed to clear the test. This test could very well prove to be an important one as the selection of many players for England limited over games depends on it.
