Indian Cricket Team had a sensational outing in the league stage of the 2019 World Cup. They lost just one game and easily paved their way into the semi-final of the tournament. But they suffered a disappointing loss in the knockout stage against New Zealand and their dream of winning the cup shattered.
5 Indian players who played 2019 World Cup and might miss the 2023 World Cup
However, they have another chance to put their hands on the trophy as they will now take part in the 2023 World Cup that will take place in India this year. As the marquee tournament is just a few months away from now, we take a look at 5 Indian players who played 2019 World Cup and might miss the 2023 World Cup
MS Dhoni
One player that played in the 2019 World Cup and surely won’t take part in the 2023 World Cup is none other than MS Dhoni. The keeper batter announced his retirement in 2020 and it’s a no-brainer that he won’t be a part of the Indian contingent this time around. He played a significant role in the last tournament as he gave his side a chance to win in the semi-final just when it seemed they would lose badly.
Very sad moment when @msdhoni also not able to control his tears. 2019 we never forget @msdhoni last departure. pic.twitter.com/MSWz6SRyb6

Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is another player who played 2019 World Cup and might miss the 2023 World Cup. He hasn’t been a part of the ODI setup since India’s loss to New Zealand in the semi-final in last World Cup. He although played T20 World Cup 2022 but it is certain that he isn’t in the plans for the ODI set up which probably rules him out of the upcoming World Cup.
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant might be the most unfortunate player who played in the 2019 World Cup and might miss the 2023 World Cup. He was added to the 2019 team as a replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan. He recently suffered a fatal crash and several reports have suggested that he will out of action for a long time. Therefore his availability for the upcoming clouds is under scanner as he’s unlikely to get fit in time.
Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar was a wild-card entry in India’s squad for the 2019 World Cup. However, he didn’t do justice to his place in the team and failed miserably. He was dropped from the side and never was considered for the team. He’s another player who played 2019 World Cup and might miss the 2023 World Cup
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was an integral part of the Indian setup for the last few years. But his poor performance has seen him getting sidelined from the team. After India’s loss in the 2021 T20 World Cup, he was dropped from the ODI team and his defeat in the 2022 T20 World Cup saw him getting dropped from the T20I team as well. He took 10 wickets in 2019 but is unlikely to play in the 2023 World Cup.
