The salaries of the players get decided in the IPL on the basis of how far the franchises stretch their base price in the auction. While that is a good thing for most of the cricketers, it actually proves to be unfair for a few cricketers because they end up getting far lesser salary than they deserve.
Today we will be talking about 5 such cricketers who are not getting as much salary in the IPL as they should be getting –
#1 Shreyas Gopal
Shreyas Gopal has a contract worth 20 Lakh INR with Rajasthan Royals. Since Gopal has not played for India yet, some people might try and justify his price tag, but the fact of the matter is that Gopal has brought as much to the table for Rajasthan as any international star has done in the last couple of seasons and if he is released in the auction next year, he might fetch an amount close to 2 or 3 crore INR.
#2 Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner is not an automatic selection in the CSK first choice XI, but that’s because CSK already has a domestic option in Ravindra Jadeja. If Santner was a part of any other squad in the IPL, he would have played regularly.
And that’s why the price that the Kiwi southpaw is currently getting at CSK is not justified by any means. Santner is receiving a salary of 50 Lakh per season at CSK, despite being one of the best white ball spinners in the world at the moment.
#3 Manan Vohra
Manan Vohra has fallen off the radar a little bit, but a couple of years back, his performance in the IPL was so impressive that he was knocking the door of the Indian national team. Manan is currently a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad, but he is not their first choice opener.
However, the right-hander is still young and immensely skillful and might get more game time in the upcoming IPL. Manan is being paid 20 Lakh INR per season by the Royals right now which, despite his dismal run in the recent past, is still a very low amount.
#4 Sandeep Lamichhane
Sandeep Lamichhane is one of the top 5 leg-spinners going around the global T20 circuit at the moment and has been put in the highest of salary brackets in most of the other leagues around the world, but in IPL, he gets only 20 Lakh INR per season at Delhi Capitals.
However, that is down to the fact that he was not a big name when the last mega IPL auction took place in 2018. If his services are not retained by the Capitals ahead of the next mega auction, Lamichhane is likely to fetch a huge amount.
#5 Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar is getting a slightly higher salary than the above mentioned 4 cricketers, but his salary is also quite low considering his standards. Chahar has probably been the most impressive Indian pacer in the IPL after Jasprit Bumrah in the last two seasons and has been rewarded with an India call-up as well, but his salary at Chennai Super Kings is just 80 Lakh per season.
The way Chahar has performed for CSK since 2018, if he puts on the same kind of performance again in IPL 2020, he will, most definitely, find himself in the much higher salary bracket in the next mega auction.
