With Star Sports broadcasting IPL on TV and Jio having the digital rights, there are a lot of openings for commentators in the Indian Premier League. Interestingly, in a few cases, there are commentators in the ongoing season who were actually coaches in the last season. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of five coaches in IPL 2023 who are commentators in IPL 2024.
1) Brian Lara
Brian Lara is one of the coaches in IPL 2023 who are commentators in IPL 2024. The West Indian legend was appointed as the Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for last season. Considering his experience and the team he had, many expected him to have a good run.
However, SRH had to suffer a bottom-table finish. Hence, Lara had to leave and Daniel Vettori is now the Head Coach of the side. Even before his stint as a Head Coach, Lara had impressed many with his skills as a broadcaster. He added a lot of value with his technical inputs. Hence, fans would be pleased to have him back in this role.
2) Dale Steyn
Before IPL 2024 started, Dale Steyn announced that he would not be able to fulfil the role of a bowling coach for IPL 2024. He was the bowling coach of SRH last season.
However, interestingly, he will feature as a commentator in IPL 2024. Steyn is one of the best fast bowlers of this era. He has also been influential in the rise of bowlers such as Umran Malik. Hence, his role as a commentator is something his fans will be excited about.
3) Mike Hesson
Mike Hesson was not exactly a coach at RCB. He was the Director of Cricket. Nevertheless, he is included on this list because he is someone who was involved in the backroom staff of a franchise last season but will be donning the role of a commentator in IPL 2024.
Even while he was with RCB, Hesson featured as a commentator across various platforms. He is a very astute tactical coach and hence, it will be interesting to hear his views as a commentator. May be, he could spill a few details about his time at RCB, as well.
4) Wasim Jaffer
Wasim Jaffer is also one of the coaches in IPL 2023 who are commentators in IPL 2024. The former Indian cricketer was the batting coach of Punjab Kings in IPL 2023.
However, the former Mumbai man will be a Hindi commentator for IPL 2024. On social media, Wasim enjoys a good following, mainly because of his entertaining tweets. Now, the fans will also expect him to entertain as a commentator, which he very well can. Wasim has anyways been in the same role before.
5) Shane Watson
Shane Watson was one of the assistant coaches of the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023. The team did not have a good campaign and Watson parted ways with the franchise.
The Aussie has shown that he can be a good commentator, especially when it comes to offering analytical information. Hence, it is good news for the fans that he will be a commentator for IPL 2024.
