4 former CSK players who are doing well for other teams

CSK might be struggling to find their feet in IPL 2020, but some of the ex CSK players who are now playing for the other teams are shining bright in the tournament and that makes CSK fans wonder what if those players were never released by CSK and would still be serving the men in yellow.

CSK has had such a strong core over the years that hardly any player was missed even when they were let go because the team just kept winning and nobody bothered if the team had got the bench strength or enough depth. However, now when there has been a string of losses, the weaknesses are suddenly coming to the fore.

Here are the 4 former CSK players who are performing well for the other teams –

1. Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the most successful finger spinners in IPL 2020 so far and he is currently playing for Delhi Capitals, but he was a vital part of the CSK set-up in the past.

Ashwin could still have been playing for CSK, but he was not retained when CSK returned to the IPL after a 2-year ban and CSK instead opted for the veteran off spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Harbhajan performed well in patches for CSK, but he was nowhere near as consistent as Ashwin and he withdrew himself from the CSK squad ahead of IPL 2020 which eventually proved to be a massive blow for the team.

2. Chris Morris

Chris Morris is the pick of the bowlers currently for RCB and is one of the main reasons why RCB is in the top half of the table, but Morris also used to play for CSK in the past. However, he was really young at that stage and the CSK management didn’t really hang onto him and released him to create room for the other overseas players in the squad.

Morris, thereafter, went on to play for Delhi Capitals and now the way he is performing for RCB, both with the ball and the bat, CSK might be regretting letting him go because he could have made a massive difference for the team this season.

3. Jason Holder

Jason Holder was originally not signed by any team for the ongoing edition of the IPL, but it was after Mitchell Marsh got injured that Holder got the call to join the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp as a replacement player.

Holder had to wait for a long time to have his opportunity in IPL 2020, but when he got one, he grabbed it with both hands. In the two games that Holder has played for SRH in IPL 2020 so far, he has got 5 wickets and he is bowling in all the crucial phases of the innings.

Holder was also a part of the CSK set-up many years back and if he was kept in the squad and developed, the West Indies red ball captain could have been playing for CSK this season.

4. Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar originally comes from Tamil Nadu and he has been a stalwart for Tamil Nadu cricket in the last few years. The all-rounder was with the Chennai squad for a brief period and played a couple of games as well, but couldn’t really make a massive difference.

However, now with SRH, Shankar is proving to be a very useful all-rounder. It was only the other day against Rajasthan Royals that Shankar was involved in a match winning partnership with Manish Pandey.

On his way to a sparkling half-century in that game, Shankar smashed the England fast bowler Jofra Archer for three consecutive boundaries off three balls, leaving everyone awestruck.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
