Mohammad Yousuf is one of the cricketers who had a different name on debut and later changed their name. One of the most prolific batters that Pakistan has seen, Mohammad Yousuf was called as Yousuf Yohana at the start of his career. Later, due to his religion conversion, he had to change his name.

2) Asghar Stanikzai to Asghar Afghan

Asghar Afghan is one of the highest-capped cricketers in Afghanistan. It was in 2018 that he added ‘Afghan’ to his surname. He said it was a matter of pride for him. At the same time, Afghanistan had introduced a new method of identification with a new identity card.

Jos Buttler is also one of the cricketers who had a different name on debut and later changed their name. For Jos, in the initial games, he was known as ‘Josh’ Buttler. However, it was a mistake by those who were referring to him by this name. A few months ago, Jos Buttler officially changed his name to ‘Jos’ Buttler to avoid further confusion.

4) Shami Ahmed to Mohammed Shami

At the start of his career, Shami was known as Shami Ahmed. However, later, even he said he was confused about how the surname ‘Ahmed’ came about. It could have also been a mistake by BCCI. Nevertheless, the issue never happened again. Shami is now one of the best bowlers for India across and is also very popular in the country.
