England had loaded the World Cup squad with players who were closer to being T20 experts than being better at Tests. Somewhere, this error in balance might have contributed to the team’s dismal show in the campaign. For players to succeed in any format of the game, the technique is of primary importance. This can be a guarantee when it comes to cricketers who have made themselves their name in the five-day format. It is just that their mindset needs to be adapted for the white-ball formats. Here, we take a look at three Test specialists England might select in the ODI squad after the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Zak Crawley
Zak Crawley recently led the England ODI squad for the Ireland series. Not just as a player but Zak might even be considered for captaincy in the future.
That said, he has not played a lot of ODIs till now. England might need a reset in the opening combination and Zak can be a good choice.
2) Ollie Pope
Ollie Pope is one of the Test specialists England might select in the ODI squad after the 2023 ODI World Cup. It needs to be seen if England would continue with Joe Root at No.3.
England could also realize that this might be the right time to press the transition button. They need to identify a fulcrum for the ODI batting side and Ollie Pope could be a great option in this regard.
3) Ollie Robinson
Ollie Robinson has been inconsistent in recent months. However, there is potential in him that can be tapped in the white-ball formats, as well.
In an ODI setup, a pacer must be able to pick wickets at any phase of an inning. Robinson is developing this and would be a good addition to the attack. He also adds decent value with the bat.
