As per reports, Dinesh Karthi could retire after IPL 2024. RCB will have a tough job in replacing him. Since the top-order is more or less finalized, RCB must find a middle-order batter cum wicket-keeper. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three realistic replacement options for RCB in IPL 2025 Auctions if Dinesh Karthik retires.
1) Glenn Phillips
Amongst the overseas options, the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs could all be retained. Since RCB needs a keeper-cum-finisher, they can target Kiwi cricketer Glenn Phillips.
He is someone who can give the right acceleration to the innings in the end. If RCB can also find another domestic keeper, they could use Phillips’ skills with the bowl, as well. This versatility makes him a good option for most teams at the upcoming auctions. Hence, he is on this list.
2) Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel is one of the realistic replacement options for RCB in IPL 2025 Auctions if Dinesh Karthik retires. The Rajasthan Royals keeper would be the perfect replacement for DK in RCB. Of course, he has a lot of scope for development but he has the skills to do it.
RCB needs a strong Indian core and that must include a wicket-keeper. Hence, Jurel would be ideal in this regard. He is also unlikely to be retained by RR, which could allow RCB to target him.
3) Jitesh Sharma
Because of his form in IPL 2024, Jitesh Sharma may not be retained by PBKS. This is despite him being appointed the vice-captain of the squad before the season started.
Nevertheless, there would be quite a few teams that would be interested in the services of Jitesh. He is experienced at the domestic level and he has showcased his skills at IPL. RCB can also target the player as the new finisher.
