From 2008, we have seen that all-rounders are rated highly in an IPL auction. Last time, we saw Sam Curran and Cameron Green extract gigantic bids by the franchises. It appears that a few players could have had this in mind while listing themselves as an all-rounder. Here, we take a look at three players you might not know have listed themselves as an all-rounder in IPL 2024 Auction.
1) Gerald Coetzee
Gerald Coetzee is a fine pacer and might go on to become the most expensive player at the IPL 2024 Auctions. However, not many know that he is also a decent batter. He can do the job at No.8 and on his day, may be, even at No.7.
That said, he is not an established batter and is unlikely to deliver with the bat in IPL. Despite this, he might have strategically listed himself as an all-rounder. This way, he will avoid competition from the likes of Mitchell Starc
2) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur is one of the players you might not know who have listed themselves as an all-rounder in the IPL 2024 Auction. His displays with the bat, both in the IPL and for Team India, have always been inconsistent.
Despite this, Shardul has marked himself as an all-rounder. This is understandable considering the demand for this type of Indian cricketer. It now needs to be seen if any team would use him at No.7 next season.
3) Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari has hardly delivered with the ball in recent years. Yet, he will go under the hammer as an all-rounder in IPL 2024 Auctions.
Top-order Indian batters hardly contribute with the ball. However, Vihari can provide a few overs of off-spin. This is rare and hence, he could be in demand. However, it needs to be noted that he has not got an IPL contract for a few seasons now.
