The 2022 edition of the IPL is happening right now in Maharashtra. 10 teams are competing against each other to win the coveted prize. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants have been quite impressive in their debut seasons. Ahead of the start of the season, there was a mega auction for all teams, where they signed players, with hopes of good performance from them.
Some players received a hike from their previous salaries, but their performance went down significantly in IPL 2022. Here’s a list of such five players.
1. Ishan Kishan – One of the players who has disappointed fans with his performance
Mumbai Indians made the most expensive signing at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. They broke the bank and shelled out INR 15.25 crore to sign Ishan Kishan. The left-handed batter scored 516 runs in 13 innings of IPL 2020 when his salary was 6.2 crore.
This year, the Mumbai-based franchise paid him close to 2.5 times that salary, but Kishan has so far managed only 321 runs in nine innings. Compared to 2020, his strike rate has gone down from 145.76 to 117.15.
2. Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur was the leading wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings when they won IPL in 2021. He picked up 21 wickets in 16 matches for CSK, with his economy rate being 8.81.
His salary went up from 2.6 crore to 10.75 crore as Delhi Capitals signed him at the mega auction. He has picked up only nine wickets in 11 matches so far this year, with his economy rate being 10.13.
3. Shahrukh Khan – One of the players who has disappointed fans with his performance
Punjab Kings paid 5.25 crore to Shahrukh Khan in IPL 2021. He scored 153 runs in 10 innings that season at a strike rate of 134.21 and an average of 21.86.
PBKS released him ahead of the mega auction and roped him in for INR 9 crore. Khan played seven matches for PBKS in IPL 2022, scoring 98 runs at a strike rate of 100. He failed to cross the 30-run mark in all innings.
