India’s preparation for the 2025 Champions Trophy seems to have hit a hurdle. The team lost a vital ODI series to Sri Lanka. This series must have been won by the men in blue. Surely, some changes are expected before the next tournament. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who could come back to the ODI squad after the shock series defeat to Sri Lanka.
1) Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad was shockingly excluded from all the squads for the Sri Lanka Tour. Based on his current form, he should have ideally been in both the T20I and the ODI Teams.
Especially in the ODI squad, Ruturaj can be the perfect choice in the batting unit. He is good against both spin and pace. Plus, he has the ability to accelerate well. This could help Team India.
2) Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar is one of the players who could come back to the ODI squad after the shock series defeat to Sri Lanka. Indian batters struggled to play spin in Sri Lanka. If India’s Champions Trophy matches are happening in Sri Lanka, then that is a big concern.
Rajat is a terrific player of spin. Also, the ODI format could utilize his skills to play a long inning. He made his debut against South Africa at the start of 2024. Hence, he could make a comeback.
3) Sanju Samson
KL Rahul did not have a great run and was dropped. Rishabh Pant also did not do well in the one game that he got. India could therefore look at Sanju Samson as one of the wicket-keeping choices for the Champions Trophy.
Sanju is someone who can play both spin and pace well. He is used to play at different slots, as well. Moreover, he has the experience to do the job. Therefore, he deserves a comeback.
