Shivam Dube is doing well against Afghanistan in the T20I series. While he has been brilliant with the bat at No.4, he is also picking some important wickets. If his form continues in the IPL, as well, it makes sense to have him because such spin-bashers could be needed in the West Indies. However, his inclusion could spell doom for some of the other cricketers. Here, we take a look at three players who could be dropped if Shivam Dube gets selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Shubman Gill
Yashasvi Jaiswal has certainly cemented his spot for the 2024 T20 World Cup. If Rohit Sharma has to captain, then, he also comes into the picture. Ruturaj Gaikwad could also compete for the role of a backup opener.
However, if India is going to take an extra middle-order batter in the form of Shivam, then they might not consider a backup opener. Virat Kohli can anyways serve this role. Hence, we could see Gill getting dropped.
2) Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma is one of the players who could be dropped if Shivam Dube gets selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Although he started well, the recent weeks have been horrible for Tilak Varma. He has just not been able to fly in the blue jersey.
India needs a player with the power game in the middle-order. Tilak would have had a chance if Shivam was not doing well. However, with Shivam is in good form, Tilak could lose his spot in the side.
3) Ravindra Jadeja
India could have considered selecting both Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad. However, if Shivam has to be selected, India might consider only one of those.
Axar is in better form at the moment. His game against spin is better than that of Jaddu. Therefore, it would not be a surprise if see Jaddu miss the flight to the West Indies and the USA.
