3 players unlucky to miss out on the Australian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup

The much-awaited Australian squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup is now out. Some big names have had to miss out on the final squad. Here, we take a look at three players unlucky to miss out on the Australian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

1) Jake Fraser-McGurk

Not many players have had a debut season like Jake Fraser-McGurk has had in the ongoing IPL. He has smashed almost every bowler and he is doing that with ease. Hence, it was surprising that he had to miss out.

It was a bit unlucky for him because there were some experienced names who were also doing well. Had JFM played a few games more in the IPL, may be, he could have convinced the selectors.

2) Spencer Johnson

Spencer Johnson is one of the players unlucky to miss out on the Australian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Mitchell Starc has been in poor form in T20I cricket for a while now. Even in IPL 2024, he has not done justice to his price tag.

Considering these factors, ideally, the Aussies would have wanted a similar option as a backup. In this regard, Spencer Johnson would have been the ideal choice. However, the rising pacer did not get a nod.

3) Steve Smith

In the last two seasons of BBL, Steve Smith tried his best to adapt to the modern T20 game. He also did well in a couple of encounters.

However, the likes of Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis are in cracking form and hence, Steve Smith was one of the casualties of the same. For a player of his stature, his experience would have been useful. However, the Aussies have a different view and hence, Smith is not a part of the team.
