It is the start of a new era with Gautam Gambhir at the helm. While everyone will look forward to youngsters for the future, Gauti could also provide one opportunity to some of the discarded names. 1) Navdeep Saini
As we all know, it was Gautam Gambhir who spotted Navdeep Saini and brought him to the Delhi cricket scene. Since then, Saini had a solid rise and went on to play Tests for India. However, due to form and fitness issues, he is now not a regular part of the side.
That said, Saini has the age and the skills to do well for India. Gauti is aware of his strengths and could be the best possible candidate to help Saini return back to his best.
2) Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana is one of the players to whom Gautam Gambhir could give one and final chance in the Indian Team. Rana is very close to Gautam Gambhir. While this is one factor, Rana’s skills and experience makes him a deserving candidate to play regularly for India.
It needs to be noted that Rana is still 30 years old. The likes of SKY debuted after 30 and is now the next skipper of the Indian Team. Rana also has a chance in this regard. He is a good left-handed middle-order batter and would add value to the team.
3) Cheteshwar Pujara
Pujara, despite getting dropped from Team India, is still doing well in domestic matches. Since India’s No.3 in Tests Shubman Gill is not consistent, Gambhir might consider Pujara’s experience for the BGT later this year.
However, whatever happens, it will be Pujara’s last chance with Team India unless he becomes the highest run-getter and India wins the series.
