IPL 2022 was a season full of ups for Rajasthan Royals. The Sanju Samson-led side for the first time since 2008 reached the finals. But fell one step short as they suffered a disappointing loss in the summit clash against Gujarat Titans to end as the runners-up. They had almost all their bases covered and dominated the tournament for most of the part.
3 Players Rajasthan Royals could have picked instead of Joe Root
They would be hoping for a scintillating comeback in the IPL 2023 and would be looking to go one step ahead and claim their second trophy. They had a decent auction as they only strengthen their squad more and covered all the bases. They brought the likes of Jason Holder, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Adam Zampa, KM Asif, Akash Vashisht, Abdul PA and Joe Root.
While all the buys were appreciated by fans, one could argue that they could’ve acquired someone else in place of Joe Root. In this piece we take look at 3 Players Rajasthan Royals could have picked instead of English batter.

Ben Stokes
English all-rounder Ben Stokes would’ve been a perfect player that Rajasthan Royals could have picked instead of an English batter. They were involved in a bidding war for him but pulled out at one point. Root isn’t best in T20Is and it’s fair to say that he’s likely to be benched. Therefore RR could’ve avoided picking him up and could’ve bagged Stokes. The all-rounder arguably is one of the best players going around in the world of cricket and his ability to soak in pressure and single-handedly win the game makes him a perfect candidate that RR could’ve acquired in place of Root. The England player has many times won the game for his side and his presence could’ve added another dimension to the team. Overall, he has played 157 games and has scored 3008 runs at a strike rate of 133.39. With the ball, he has picked up 93 scalps at an economy of 8.41.
Rillie Rossouw
Rillie Rossouw is another player Rajasthan Royals could have picked instead of Joe Root. The Proteas batter of late has gained a lot of limelight for his heroics and has been a consistent scorer for both his franchises and South Africa as well. With Joe Root not much known about his T20 heroics, the southpaw could’ve been best for RR as his ability to take the game deep and play big innings could’ve been handy for the team. He is a veteran of 284 T20 games in which he has scored 7057 at a staggering strike rate of over 142.
Harry Brook
Another player Rajasthan Royals could have picked instead of Joe Root is Harry Brook. The right-hander has been one of the best youngsters going around the world in cricket and his ability to take bowlers right from the ball 1 could’ve been a precious thing for RR. Root on the other hand doesn’t have a good record in T20Is and it’s unlikely that he will feature in the team. Had they acquired Brook instead of him, he could’ve played a great role for his side at any given position. Brook has been exceptional in T20s as in 99 games he has played 2432 runs at a strike rate of over 148. Brook eventually was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 13.25 crores.
