3 Players Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma was brought by Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakhs.

Delhi Capitals had a dismissal outing in the IPL 2022 as after qualifying for three consecutive years, they failed to reach the playoffs. They ended the season fifth on the points table and they would be hoping to break the shackles and clinch their maiden title in IPL 2023.

3 Players Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma

Delhi Capitals had a decent auction ahead of the IPL 2023.  They brought in the likes of Phil Salt, Ishant Sharma, Manish Pandey, Mukesh Kumar, and Rilee Rossouw to strengthen their team. While many lauded them for the rest of the picks, one could argue why they picked Ishant Sharma as they feel that the pacer is getting old and is relatively less effective. In this piece, we will take a look at 3 Players Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma, who they acquired for 50 lakhs.

Sandeep Sharma

Sandeep Sharma could’ve been a perfect player for that Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma. The pacer has been phenomenal in the IPL as he has taken 114 wickets in 104 IPL appearances at a decent economy of 7.77. Being the bowler to dismiss Virat Kohli Kohli most times in the league, the fast bowler was the only bowler between 2014 and 2020 to the scalp over 12 wickets in each edition. With Ishant Sharma getting old and being ineffective for a while now, Sandeep could’ve played a vital role for DC. His ability to swing the ball initially could’ve benefitted the team as they lack swing bowlers and therefore he was a better choice than Ishant Sharma. Despite being so effective in the league, Sandeep went unsold.

Varun Aaron

Another player Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma was Varun Aaron. The pacer has vast experience and is relatively young than Ishant Sharma. With DC lacking pacers who can generate swiping initially, Aaron could’ve played a great role for the team in the league. His ability to ball fast and swing the ball could’ve been threatening for any opposition. In 53 games he has picked 44 wickets at an economy of 8.94 and could’ve been quite effective for DC. He too went unsold in the auction.

Jaydev Unadkat

The third and the most prominent player that Delhi Capitals could have picked instead of Ishant Sharma is Jaydev Unadkat. The left-arm pacer has one of the best fast bowlers doing around in domestic cricket and recently made a comeback in the Test team. He could’ve provided an extra dimension to the team as his left arm angle could’ve been handy for them both in power play and at the death. In the 91 games, he has 91 wickets in the league with an economy of over 8.
