“To be honest, I was not expecting this” Sandeep Sharama on getting unsold in IPL 2023 auction

Sandeep Sharma has represented Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Sandeep Sharma expressed his disappointment with not getting picked in the IPL 2023 auction. He said that Ge was shocked to see himself getting unsold as he has been performing well in the domestic circuits as well as in the IPL.

Sandeep Sharma fails to attract bidders in the IPL 2023 auction 

IPL 2023 auction was a life-changing career moment for many cricketers. This edition of the event saw the bid for the most expensive player in the history of the league in Sam Curran, who was acquired by Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crores.

He was followed by Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who was brought by Mumbai Indians for ₹17.5 crores, and Ben Stokes, who was purchased by Chennai Super Kings for INR 16.25 crores.

However, the auction wasn’t fruitful for every player including senior pacer Sandeep Sharma. The former SRH pacers failed to attract the bidders and was unsold. The right-arm pacer registered the auction at his base price of INR 50 lakhs but wasn’t picked by anyone.

Sandeep has been phenomenal in the IPL as he has taken 114 wickets in 104 IPL appearances at a decent economy of 7.77. Being the bowler to dismiss Virat Kohli most times in the league, the fast bowler was the only bowler between 2014 and 2020 to scalp over 12 wickets in each edition.

“I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold,” says Sandeep Sharma 

Sandeep Sharma expressed his disappointment in not getting picked in the IPL Auction. Speaking to Cricket.Com, he also highlighted how well he has done in the domestic circuit. He said:

“I’m shocked and disappointed. I don’t know why I went unsold. I’ve done well whichever team I had played for and genuinely thought some team would bid for me. To be honest, I was not expecting this. Don’t even know where it has gone wrong. In domestic cricket, I have been performing well. In the Ranji Trophy, last round, I took seven wickets. I did so well in Syed Mushtaq Ali.”
