3 opening combinations LSG could try if KL Rahul bats in the middle-order

It appears that KL Rahul is completely making himself into a middle-order batter. As per reports, he is all set to bat in the middle order for the Lucknow Super Giants next season. This means that the team would have to field a fresh opening combination from the next season. Here, we take a look at three opening combinations LSG could try if KL Rahul bats in the middle-order.

1) Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal arrived at LSG a few weeks ago in a trade deal. Everyone was confused as to why the franchise hired another top-order cricketer. However, now, the intention seems clear.

This combination is likely to be the first option for LSG. Yes, there would be two left-handers but since the team has a solid middle-order, both of them can express freely. It will be interesting to see how they can tackle the spinners.

2) Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers

Kyle Mayers kept QDK out of the team for most of the matches in IPL 2023. If the West Indian cricketer is in the same form, we could see QDK and Mayers opening the batting.

However, having two openers at the top might break the balance of the side. Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran are also required in the XI. Mark Wood is also available. So, the team might struggle to have this duo at the top.

3) Quinton de Kock and Ayush Badoni

Quinton de Kock and Ayush Badoni could form one of the opening combinations LSG could try if KL Rahul bats in the middle-order. If LSG wants a left-right combination, they can try Ayush Badoni as an opener.

The youngster is yet to perform consistently for the franchise. Maybe, having to bat in the powerplay restrictions could bring the best out of him. Hence, he could play as an opener.
