Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the Head Coach was extended until the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup. BCCI has no reportedly opened applications for this slot after the mega event. In recent times, BCCI has preferred Indian candidates for this role. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Indians who could apply for the position of Team India’s next Head Coach.

1) Rahul Dravid could apply again

It could all depend on what happens in the 2024 T20 World Cup. If Rahul Dravid wins it, he surely will command greater attention from the BCCI. Of course, he will also want to continue in his role as the Head Coach.

If India does not win the event, as well, Dravid might be interested to continue. India has some top tournaments such as the BGT and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He could win some silverware here.

2) Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra is one of the Indians who could apply for the position of Team India’s next Head Coach. With Gujarat Titans stint not going to perfection in IPL 2024, he could consider options elsewhere.

Team India would definitely be open to a young and dynamic coach like Ashish Nehra, who already has a proven track record. While his exploits in the T20 format are known, it will be interesting to see how he will plan his philosophy for the other two formats of the game.

3) VVS Laxman

The last time around, as well, it was the NCA Head who went on to become the Head Coach. VVS Laxman has already coached Team India whenever Dravid was unavailable.

Laxman would be the logical successor to Dravid. However, unlike Dravid back then, VVS Laxman does not have major coaching achievments on his resume. Nevertheless, if he comes up with a good deck, he would be in a good position to becom the next Head Coach of the Indian Team.
