BCCI named a 17-member squad for the Asia Cup on Monday. In the press conference that followed, Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar mentioned that this squad could be changed for the World Cup. Hence, the dropped cricketers might still have a chance. Here, we take a look at three Indians dropped for Asia Cup 2023 but might get selected for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal was one of the big misses in the Asia Cup squad. India has picked Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja as the spin options.
It needs to be noted that the tournament is happening in India. During the middle overs, spinners dictate the proceedings and hence, Chahal still has a chance. All would depend on how Kuldeep would perform in the Asia Cup.
2) R Ashwin
R Ashwin is one of the Indians dropped for Asia Cup 2023 but might get selected for the 2023 ODI World Cup. In this era of matchups, it would be unwise to miss out on any type of bowler.
R Ashwin is an experienced cricketer and is one of the best off-spinners in the game right now. Moreover, he adds batting depth while retaining his value in the bowling department. This is needed for the Indian Team and hence, Ashwin might be a good choice.
3) Washington Sundar
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder has been out of the ODI setup for a while now. However, it may not be a surprise if he makes a comeback. More than him, it is his attribute which might force Washi back into the squad.
India desperately needs batting depth. This is clearly lacking right now. If the team needs an extra spinner, they can have Sundar in the XI. He would also give decent batting value and would be a great option in containing the flow of runs during the middle overs.
