Indian Premier League has been in existence since 2008. Players now do not have a better platform to hone and show their skills than the IPL. The same goes for the coaches, as well. Many coaches have graduated from junior coaching roles to become the Head Coaches of top teams right now. On that note, here, we take a look at three Head Coaches in the 2023 ODI World Cup you might not know were once IPL coaches.
1) Ryan Cook (Netherlands) – Fielding coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad
Ryan Cook is doing a fine job as the Head Coach of the Netherlands. Despite having limited resources, he has done a great job and that includes the squad that he has constructed.
Recently, Cook’s Netherlands beat South Africa, who are one of the favourites to lift the tournament. Not many know that Cook was the fielding coach of SRH in IPL 2023.
2) Rob Walter (South Africa) – Assistant coach at Pune Warriors and Delhi Capitals
Rob Walter is one of the Head Coaches in the 2023 ODI World Cup you might not know was once an IPL coach. The current coach of South Africa has been an assistant coach in the IPL before. He does not have a role now, though.
He has already turned South Africa into a dangerous side. It needs to be seen if he can take them all the way in this campaign.
3) Andrew McDonald (Australia) – Head coach of Rajasthan Royals and bowling coach of RCB
Andrew McDonald had more than one coaching stint in the Indian Premier League. A former assistant to Justin Langer, Andrew later replaced Langer as the Head Coach of Australia.
Earlier, McDonald had a good experience coaching in the IPL. First, he was the bowling coach of RCB. Later, he had a stint as the Head Coach of RR. However, in both cases, his stint did not end well.
