At IPL 2022 Mega Auctions, Ishan Kishan was one of the in-demand players to go under the hammer. He was in form and considering he had done well before, many teams were targeting him. However, Mumbai Indians paid a record fee to get back the wicket-keeper to the squad. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three franchises which targeted Ishan Kishan in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before MI signed him.
1) Punjab Kings
It was Punjab Kings who initiated the bidding war with Mumbai Indians for Ishan Kishan. Considering they needed an Indian keeper, it is not a surprise that they went after Ishan Kishan.
However, at the moment, PBKS has a good set of wicket-keepers. The likes of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma are all doing well for the team.
2) Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans is one of the franchises which targeted Ishan Kishan in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before MI signed him. Considering Ishan’s good relationship with Hardik Pandya, this was a move on the cards. Also, GT needed a good wicket-keeper and a partner for Shubman Gill at the top of the order.
However, GT had to bow out of the bidding due to the increasing price. They just could not settle on a keeper and eventually signed Wriddhiman Saha. That said, this was a good move as the veteran provided the starts needed for GT to do well.
3) Sunrisers Hyderabad
SRH was also a squad that was looking to sign good Indian players. Ishan Kishan was one such player whom the team had targeted.
However, SRH could not sign the player. Nevertheless, it was not a big miss as the team could sign the likes of Rahul Tripathi and Abhishek Sharma. In the next auction, they made a solid move by hiring Heinrich Klaasen, who is one of the best T20 batters in the game right now.
