An ICC event is always a good platform for the players and also some of the aspiring coaches. If an opportunity comes their way to be an assistant coach, it would be a good chance for them to understand the demands of a big event. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three former cricketers you might not know are Assistant Coaches in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Andrew Flintoff – England
After his retirement, Flintoff took to different professions, including that of boxing and acting. However, he is back to the game and this time around, he is looking to become a popular coach. He already gained some experience in the Hundred and now, he will be one of the four assistant coaches for England.
At his time, Flintoff was one of the best all-rounders. However, injuries hampered his career. His experience will be of great use to the English setup.
2) Thilina Kandamby – Sri Lanka
Thilina Kandamby is one of the former cricketers you might not know are Assistant Coaches in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Not many know that Kandamby is one of the former T20I captains for Sri Lanka. However, it was just in one game.
A good batter, Kandamby played quite a few white-ball games for his country. After his retirement, he took to coaching. Some of the teams he coached include the Bangla Tigers in the T10 League.
3) Azhar Mahmood – Pakistan
Azhar Mahmood is one of the former all-rounders who represented Pakistan. Interestingly, he is one of the very few players who played in the Indian Premier League after the Pakistan cricketers were not allowed in the league. Mahmood did this using his English passport.
Mahmood is a fine coach and has already shown his skills in the PSL. He will be assisting Gary Kirsten, who was recently appointed as the Head Coach of the side.
