3 foreign pacers Delhi Capitals tried to sign in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not

Delhi Capitals were very active in the IPL 2024 Auctions. While they eventually signed Jhye Richardson as the overseas pacer, they also looked at some of the other options. On that note, here, we take a look at three foreign pacers Delhi Capitals tried to sign in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not.

1) Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph was one of the first targets for DC. However, after he went past the team’s allocated amount for a pacer, they withdrew from the bidding.

The likes of LSG and RCB fought hard for the services of the West Indian pacer. Eventually, it was RCB who signed the tall fast bowler. He came at a premium price of above INR 11 Cr.

2) Mitchell Starc

The bidding for Mitchell Starc was itself one of the subplots of the day. He became the costliest player ever in the history of IPL with a bid of more than INR 24 Cr.

However, Delhi Capitals had an idea to sign him at a low price. Hence, they were one of the first teams to raise their baton along with Mumbai Indians. That said, it was clear that one of GT or KKR would sign the player because of their hefty purse. Eventually, KKR picked up the cricketer.

3) Spencer Johnson

Spencer Johnson is one of the foreign pacers Delhi Capitals tried to sign in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not. There were a lot of expectations from Spencer Johnson in the auctions. He is a rising cricketer and is dubbed the next Mitchell Starc for Australia.

Delhi Capitals were desperate to get the player and so were Gujarat Titans. The Titans needed him more because they lacked a good and reliable overseas fast bowler. They also wanted a left-arm pacer and hence, they went as high as INR 10 Cr for the cricketer from Australia.
