England is facing the prospect of not qualifying for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Defending champions of the 2023 ODI World Cup, it would be a major shock if England cannot make it to the event in Pakistan. A lot of changes could happen then and a few players could decide to quit English cricket, as well. Here, we take a look at three England players who might retire if the team doesn’t qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
1) Dawid Malan
There were a lot of expectations from Dawid Malan. However, the veteran failed to do well in the competition. He was an important player in granting a license to Jonny Bairstow to express himself freely. However, the combination did not click.
England would surely look at other options in the next months. There is plenty of talent available, anyway. Therefore, Malan could retire from the format.
2) Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali is one of the England players who might retire if the team doesn’t qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. He was surprisingly dropped from the XI in the starting stages of the World Cup.
Since then, Moeen has not been able to come back strongly. Anyway, his form has not been great in recent months. Considering his age and the emergence of Will Jacks, the management might prefer the youngster for future tournaments.
3) Adil Rashid
An under-rated cricketer, Rashid’s form has not been great, so far. There were a lot of expectations from him as the lead spinner of the side.
Rashid is 35 and England will have to plan for the future. Rehan Ahmed is a solid option to be groomed in this regard. Rashid might also want to play more T20 tournaments to secure himself financially now that opportunities in the England shirt could dwindle. Hence, he is also a part of this list.
