England cricketers are really forward-thinking when it comes to retiring from the game. As much as they consider their careers, they also keep the future of the team in mind. In this regard, we might expect a few players to hang up their boots after the conclusion of the upcoming World Cup. Here, we take a look at the list of three England cricketers who could retire from ODIs after the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes re-iterated many times that he would not withdraw his ODI retirement. However, Jos Buttler and co convinced him to return to the ODI setup.
However, it would be a major surprise if he continues to play the format. For his workload, it would be better if he skips the format and focusses on the other two formats of the game.
2) Dawid Malan
Dawid Malan is one of the England cricketers who could retire from ODIs after the 2023 ODI World Cup. The English cricketer made it to the England ODI WC squad by a whisker. There was an injury issue and also the form of Harry Brook. He is now likely to open the batting with Jonny Bairstow.
However, the 36-year-old could retire from ODIs. The likes of Ben Duckett are in good form and might take the spot in the ODI setup, as well. Hence, Malan is one of the players who might have to give way, considering his age.
3) Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali has already retired from Tests. He could follow suit in ODIs, as well. It would be more about prolonging his T20 career.
The likes of Will Jacks have the ability to replace Moeen in the long term. England must try Will Jacks soon as England does not have a lot of players in this profile. Considering these factors, Moeen Ali might give way.
