In the last three or four years, the management has been actively rotating the squad across formats. Hence, there have been multiple debutantes, especially in the T20 format. However, not all got a long rope. Some players, despite having the potential, did not get a lot of chances. On that note, here, we take a look at three dropped Indian T20I players in the last 3 years who deserve another chance.
1) Umran Malik
Umran Malik was drafted into the Indian T20I setup a bit sooner. He did well in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad and taking note of his potential, he soon got his chance in the Indian squad. While he did have some impressive games, he showed a lack of control.
He did not have a great time in IPL 2023 and he was dropped later. However, it needs to be noted that he is young and he has got raw pace, something that not many are gifted with. Hence, he still deserves one more opportunity.
2) Varun Chakaravarthy
Varun Chakaravarthy is one of the dropped Indian T20I players in the last 3 years who deserves another chance. After doing well for KKR, he earned a spot in the Indian Team. He played in the World Cup, as well, but he could not deliver.
That said, he is a mystery spinner and is good at defending. Such spinners are needed in the Indian Team. Varun can be a game-changer for the 2024 T20 World Cup if picked.
3) Rahul Tripathi
It is surprising that Rahul Tripathi failed to get more chances, despite doing well in the limited opportunities that he received.
In his last few games before getting dropped, as well, Rahul played a few knocks with good intent. Especially after his poor IPL 2023 and domestic season, he was not considered again by the Indian squad.
