As per reports, Punjab Kings will part ways with Trevor Bayliss before IPL 2025. Punjab Kings will need to find a candidate whom they can trust for a few seasons. There are plenty of options available. Here, we take a look at the list of three candidates Punjab Kings must desperately target to become their next Head Coach.
1) Ashish Nehra (if he leaves Gujarat Titans)
As per reports, Ashish Nehra is set to leave Gujarat Titans. It will be a massive call if that happens because Ashish has majorly been good for the franchise. It is said that Yuvraj Singh will replace him.
If Ashish is available in the market, PBKS should target him. He has the experience of winning the IPL and is also aware of Indian cricket from the grassroots level. Players would have easier access to him and hence, it could help them express themselves more freely.
2) Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting is one of the candidates Punjab Kings must desperately target to become their next Head Coach. The former Australian skipper is no longer the Head Coach of Delhi Capitals. It will be interesting to see which team would sign Ricky for IPL 2025.
Whenever there was an Aussie at the helm, PBKS did well. Ponting is someone who usually has a blueprint for the future. It is exactly what PBKS needs at the moment. This way, PBKS can streamline their vision better and get close to the trophy.
3) Shane Watson
Shane Watson has been doing a decent job in some of the other leagues. In the IPL, he has experience of being an assistant coach.
At least going by the short coaching career so far, Watto seems to be full of fresh ideas. It is expected considering he was playing the game not long ago. Therefore, PBKS must target the former CSK man.
