3 Bowlers who can replace injured Jhye Richardson in the Mumbai Indians squad for the IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians had a decent auction as they brought Cameron Green and it’s fair to say that they have all their bases covered now. Apart from Australian all-rounder, they purchased Jhye Richardson, Piyush Chawla, Dean Jansen, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Nehal Wadhera, and Raghav Goyal. However, they have suffered a massive blow ahead of the tournament as their two ace pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries. As Richardson ruled out of the league m, let’s take a look at 3 players who might replace him in MI for the IPL 2023.
Injuries are a big part of cricket, thats a fact. Frustrating? Absolutely.
AdvertisementBut I’m now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work bloody hard to become an even better player than before.
One step back, two steps forward.
Let’s do this. pic.twitter.com/7FdFeV8adj— Jhye Richardson (@jhyericho) March 11, 2023
Dasun Shanaka
Although Mumbai Indians have quite a few pace-bowling all-rounders but Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka could be an ideal player for Mumbai Indians in place of Jhye Richardson. His ability to step up with both bat and ball could be handy for the five-time champions. His batting will boost MI’s lower order and with him being an economical fast bowler, he can be a great support to the likes of Jofra Archer Cameron Green and others. His ability to swing the new ball and bowl exceptionally well at the death could be vital for Mumbai Indians. The all-rounder has so far played 176 matches in the shortest format and has amassed 3649 runs at a strike rate of 142.65. He also has picked up 53 wickets at an economy of 8.72.
Sandeep Sharma
Mumbai Indians can look to replace Jhye Richardson with a local bowler as well. That bowler could well be Sandeep Sharma, who could be a perfect replacement for them in the IPL 2023. The pacer has been phenomenal in the IPL as he has taken 114 wickets in 104 IPL appearances at a decent economy of 7.77. Being the bowler to dismiss Virat Kohli Kohli most times in the league, the fast bowler was the only bowler between 2014 and 2020 to scalp over 12 wickets in each edition. In the absence of Bumrah and Richardson both, Sandeep could play a vital role for MI with the new ball and provide good support to Jofra Archer. His ability to swing the ball initially could’ve benefitted the team as they lack swing bowlers and therefore he can be one among the choices to replace Richardson. Despite being so effective in the league, Sandeep went unsold in the auction.
Riley Meredith
The ideal replacement for Jhye Richardson could be his Australian teammate Riley Meredith. Meredith was a part of the MI set-up last year and was decent with the ball in the opportunities he got. The pacer possesses a similar ability as that of Richardson and his pace could be handy for the side on the Wankhede’s wicket. He has played 13 games in the league and has taken 12 wickets in those games. He could be a handy option for the team in the middle order and could provide breakthroughs at the death as well.
