3 Bold releases Gujarat Titans might do before IPL 2024

Gujarat Titans fell short of their second consecutive IPL by the barest of the margins earlier today in the final match of the 2023 season. Playing against Chennai Super Kings, GT failed to defend 10 runs off the last two balls and lost by five wickets. Gujarat Titans will now aim to become the IPL 2024 champions.

Like very season, there will be an auction before the new IPL season starts. This time also it will be a mini auction like 2023, and teams will be allowed to release a few players so that they can make space for new additions.

Although it seemed like an almost perfect campaign for the Gujarat Titans, here’s a list of three bold releases which they might do before IPL 2024 Auction.

1. Dasun Shanaka may not be retained by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024

Dasun Shanaka joined the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 as a replacement for Kane Williamson. As per the rules of the IPL, there is a limit on the number of overseas players a team can have in their squad. Williamson will likely be available to play in IPL 2024. Thus, GT will have to pick one between Williamson and Shanaka, and the former will be the favorite in that race.

2. Will Gujarat Titans release Yash Dayal before IPL 2024?

Yash Dayal had a forgettable 2023 season in IPL. He leaked too many runs this season. On top of that, he ended up conceding five sixes off five balls to Rinku Singh when the Kolkata Knight Riders needed 29 runs from the last five balles against the Gujarat Titans. GT may want to back him, but his numbers were quite disappointing this season.

3. Darshan Nalkande

Another uncapped pacer to feature on this list is Darshan Nalkande. He gave away 44 runs in four overs in the crucial Qualifier 1 match against CSK. With Shivam Mavi sitting on the bench, GT can consider releasing Nalkande.
