Revealing the injury, it was said that Kane Williamson suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture (ACL) in his right knee after being knocked in the season opener.

Williamson returned to New Zealand of late and after careful diagnosis, it was revealed that he will be undergoing surgery within the next three weeks once the swelling of his knee has gone down.

Here is what Gary Stead had to say about the Kane Williamson injury

Williamson landed in a pretty uneven manner after trying to save a six from Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bat and the entire weight of his body landed on his knee. That resulted in a very unfortunate injury that shred open his ACL. He managed to keep down the eventual outcome by 2 runs but at the end of the day ended up clutching his knee that gave away the fact that he has hurt himself big time.

New Zealand coach, Gary Stead said, “You take Kane the player for a start, but then Kane the leader and the person he is within our group as well, it’s a huge spanner in the works for us. We haven’t given up hope that he might be right but at this stage it does look unlikely. Our first thoughts are with Kane at the moment, it’s a tough time for him, it’s not an injury you expect…it hits you pretty hard.”

A twitter user posted about the injury, saying, “Very sad. That Man Gave everything in 2019 WC still ended up losing it. Now He isn’t gonna play 2023 WC. Wishing for a speedy recovery.”
