Abhishek Sharma has been in hot form in IPL 2024. It is surprising that he is still an uncapped player. Nevertheless, a few teams saw the spark in him and that is the reason he picked up a bid of close to INR 6 Crores back in the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. A few teams’ fortunes would have been different with him on the side. Going by his current form, it is unlikely that SRH will let him go in the near future. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two teams that targeted Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before SRH signed him.
1) Punjab Kings
Having signed Shikhar Dhawan early on, Punjab Kings were possibly looking at his opening partner or a backup for the likes of Mayank Agarwal. Considering his special ability to take on spin, Abhishek could have also been looked at as an option in the middle-order.
More than this, it was because he was from Punjab that PBKS was interested in him. Hence, right from the first bid, PBKS were in for the talented cricketer. However, eventually, after a point, PBKS could not afford him. Hence, they had to bow out of the race.
2) Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans is one of the teams that targeted Abhishek Sharma in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before SRH signed him. One of the late entrants to sign Abhishek Sharma was Gujarat Titans. They came in right at the end. It was not sure if they were really inclined to buy the player.
Nevertheless, if you look now, Abhishek along with Shubman Gill would have been splendid at the top of the order for GT. That said, GT found another gem in the form of B Sai Sudharsan. Hence, they would not regret much that they had to lose Abhishek.
