Usually, teams do not go shopping for their captain in a mini-auction. Sometimes, the acquisitions they make could actually force them to think differently about their captaincy situation. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two teams that might change captain after the IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Sunrisers Hyderabad
SRH is overloaded with talent when it comes to its overseas contingent. Travis Head and Pat Cummins were the major signings at the recent IPL 2024 Auctions. Both are high-profile cricketers and they came at a high price. Hence, they will have to feature in the playing XI. Heinrich Klaasen is also a must in the team.
The fourth player has to be Aiden Markram because he is the skipper. However, the team also has Wanindu Hasaranga who would improve the spin attack. To give that option, Markram could have to sit out. A World Cup-winning skipper is in the team and Pat Cummins might be urged to take up the role. Hence, SRH could change their captain in the next few months.
2) Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings is one of the teams that might change captain after the IPL 2024 Auctions. With Harshal Patel in the team, PBKS will have its death bowling sorted. There would be less pressure on Sam Curran and we could see the best of him in the next season.
On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan has not played cricket for a while. Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow would be the better options as openers. Therefore, it would not be a surprise if PBKS makes Sam Curran as the skipper of the side. It would also bode well for the franchise for the next few years. Building the side around Curran could help the team from a balance point of view. It is a hard decision but PBKS could take the call.
