Delhi Capitals have had a disastrous start to IPL 2023. They are yet to open their account and three games have already happened for them. While the bowling has looked good in patches, it is the batting department that has failed to step up. Matches would be coming in thick and fast and the management will have to make the changes soon inorder to start winning games. On that note, here, we take a look at two tactical changes Delhi Capitals should make to get back to winning ways.
1) Opening with Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh was in cracking form in the recent ODI series against India as an opener. This is an option that even DC could consider, especially with Prithvi Shaw not doing well at the top of the order.
As seen recently, Warner is not able to take on the bowlers soon, like he used to do in the past. He needs an in-form partner at the other end and Marsh is someone whom Ricky Ponting could consider. This way, Marsh can give some quick runs while Warner can play as the anchor. The team could also work around to give a new role to Prithvi Shaw.
2) Playing Phil Salt as the wicket-keeper
Having English cricketer Phil Salt as the wicket-keeper is one of the tactical changes Delhi Capitals should make to get back to winning ways. With Rishabh Pant missing out, this hole is yet to be filled well by the team.
Sarfaraz Khan was not great with the gloves but Abishek Porel is decent in this regard. However, he is too raw to put on consistent performances with the bat. On the other hand, both Rilee Rossouw and Rovman Powell are not doing great in their respective roles. Hence, Phil Salt can be used at No.3 and Axar Patel could bat at No.4 to take on the spinners. This way, DC would give itself the best chance by giving their best batters the maximum balls to face.
