2 sacked captains who could become full-time captains again after the 2023 ODI World Cup

It is not a surprise that a few teams will change their captains after the 2023 ODI World Cup. It will be about kickstarting a new era or entering the transition period. Interestingly, a few players who were once sacked as captains could get one more chance to become the skippers of their nations. On that note, here, we take a look at two sacked captains who could become captains again for their nations after the 2023 ODI World Cup.

1) Sarfaraz Ahmed

Many thought that Sarfaraz would get a chance in the 2023 ODI World Cup squad as the backup for Mohammad Rizwan. However, the management went ahead with Mohammad Haris. The presence of Sarfaraz could have helped Pakistan in crucial situations because he is an experienced cricketer.

Nevertheless, Sarfaraz could be in line for a return to the squad and might even get the top post. There are reports that Babar Azam could face the sack after the World Cup. Amongst the replacement options, the name of Sarfaraz is also doing the rounds. It needs to be noted that the veteran was previously removed from the position as the captain.

2) Steve Smith

Steve Smith is one of the sacked captains who could become captains again for their nations after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Australia has started to do well but it is not sure if Pat Cummins’s role as a full-time skipper across formats could be a feasible one in the long run.

Cummins’ body needs frequent rest and that can be done mainly during the white-ball tournaments. In this regard, Smith would be an excellent option to take over the ODI side, at least. He was sacked after the infamous ball-tampering scandal a few years ago. Smith has got some chances to lead the side since then. He can now get a chance to become the full-time captain, yet again.
