Even before Ashes 2023 started, it was sure that David Warner was going to play his last edition of the event. Now, it appears that Warner might not get a chance in the Australian Team altogether. While he could be dropped for the fourth Ashes Test in Manchester, it is very likely that Australia may not consider him going forward in Tests. On that note, here, we take a look at two players who could replace David Warner as the opener for Australia in Test Cricket.
1) Travis Head
In the absence of David Warner, Travis Head has opened a few Tests for Australia. He would complement Usman Khawaja better, considering the form that he is in. He can give a few quick starts and this will help the likes of Usman and Marnus Labuschagne in the test innings.
Head has an issue with bouncers, but with him opening, he could face fewer of them. Yes, it would give him a different challenge, but Head has already proved that he can deal with it. Australia will surely miss a left-hander in the middle order, but they have quite a few options in this regard. Hence, they might not worry much about moving Head to the top.
2) Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris is one of the players who could replace David Warner as opener for Australia in Test Cricket. It was a surprise that Harris got a call for the Ashes. It is likely that he would now replace Warner going forward.
He has quite a lot of experience to excel at the highest level. Australia needs a transition period during this phase and Harris might be a better option for the Aussies at the moment. Therefore, the player is on this list. Australia can also consider the likes of Matthew Renshaw for this position.
