At the time of an auction, there are various opinions on expensive signings. In most cases, it was the question of whether the franchises overpaid for these players. However, as the season starts and continues, some of these signings actually become worth it. It is the case in the ongoing IPL 2024, as well. On that note, here, we take a look at two highly criticized signings in IPL 2024 Auctions which turned out to be solid acquisitions.
1) Pat Cummins – INR 20.5 Cr
At least at that point in time, Pat Cummins became the most expensive player in the history of IPL. SRH, who had already had two overseas pacers and a good skipper, still invested in Pat Cummins and spent a chunk of their purse on him. To add context, Cummins had had some forgettable seasons in the IPL before and hence, this move was criticized.
However, cut to IPL 2024, the signing of Cummins is proving to be a genius move. He has been terrific as a skipper and SRH is displaying an exciting brand of cricket. At the same time, he is doing well with the ball and is contributing with the bat, as well.
2) Yash Dayal – INR 5 Cr
Yash Dayal is one of the highly criticized signings in IPL 2024 Auctions which turned out to be solid acquisitions. With RCB needing some good bowlers, fans and experts were disappointed when the team spent a big amount on Yash Dayal. The player had a disappointing IPL 2023 and hence, many felt he was a bad signing.
However, in IPL 2024, Yash has been a solid player for RCB. He has done well in the powerplay and is also displaying some good variations in the death overs. Considering the other options in the auctions, actually, it seems that RCB had zeroed in on the right target.
