Despite being 40, Faf du Plessis is the best batter in the Major League Cricket 2024. He was also brilliant in IPL 2024. There is no reason why he cannot play a few more years in the IPL. However, Royal Challengers Bengaluru may not retain him. He may not be worth the retention amount, especially because of his game. That said, a few other teams will target to sign him. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two franchises which might target Faf du Plessis for IPL 2025 if he is released by RCB.
1) Chennai Super Kings
It is for the Texas Super Kings that Faf du Plessis played so well in MLC 2024. He was decent for the Joburg Super Kings in SA20 2024. Considering his past success at CSK, it is not a surprise if CSK goes back for him again in the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
At the moment, CSK needs an opener who can make the best use of the powerplay. Both Faf and Devon Conway combined well for TSK in MLC 2024. CSK will look to have both of them back again in the side. Faf is a CSK legend and it is best that he gets his farewell at this franchise as per the fans of CSK. It needs to be seen if this could happen, though.
2) Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings is one of the franchises which might target Faf du Plessis for IPL 2025 if he is released by RCB. It needs to be noted that Faf du Plessis is the skipper of St Lucia Kings in the CPL, a franchise which is also owned by the owners of Punjab Kings.
Plus, Faf is in great form and would provide a captaincy choice straightaway. The home venue for PBKS might also suit Faf’s style although it might not be perfect for him. Under him, the franchise can adopt a better structure and streamline their progress.
