Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are struggling for form in the ongoing edition of IPL. Till now, MI has suffered four defeats and is yet to win an encounter. The performances of key players have been disappointing, while the tactics and strategies are also playing a part in the team’s failure. MI’s next opponent will be Punjab Kings on Wednesday. On that note, in this article, we take a look at two different strategies Mumbai Indians can try to register their first win in IPL 2022.
1) Rohit Sharma in the middle-order
Rohit Sharma playing in the middle-order is one of the different strategies Mumbai Indians can try to register their first win in IPL 2022. The Mumbai Indians skipper started his career at No.4 in the franchise. With him not firing, it would be best to try out a different tactic.
With Rohit moving to No.4, Mumbai can have Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav at their natural positions. Both these players are in form and playing at their preferred slots will help them further. The lower middle-order of the team is anyway struggling and with Rohit at No.4, he can act as a pivot to allow others around him to play freely. Alternatively, MI can also have Rohit at No.3 and SKY following him in the order.
2) Backing Tim David in a specific role
Tim David was hired at a top amount and it is surprising that Mumbai Indians dropped him after just two encounters. The cricketer is extremely talented and he needs to be backed longer to come good. Although Dewald Brevis looks exciting, it seems too early for the teenager to play in the IPL.
Tim is a player who usually excels at death. This is a profile that comes with a lot of risk-taking. Therefore, Mumbai Indians should not be worried much about the player’s form, at least in the initial encounters. If he can find his feet in the tournament, MI then reap rewards consistently. The franchise can also make use of his off-spin if required. Also, the management must ensure that Tim is clearly specified of his role, something that can help him at the crease.
