The sixth match of IPL 2023 happened earlier tonight between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK got off to a flier, thanks to a half-century from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Ruturaj continued from where he left in the last match and scored 57 runs off just 31 balls, whacking three fours and four sixes. Devon Conway supported him to perfection with a 29-ball 47. LSG tried to bounce back by taking back-to-back wickets, but cameos from MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu helped CSK set a 218-run target for the Lucknow-based franchise.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers for the away team with figures of 3/28. Mark Wood also took three wickets for the Super Giants.
Chasing 219 for a win, the Lucknow Super Giants got off to a brilliant start as well. In-form batter Kyle Mayers smashed a half-century at the top of the order. KL Rahul scored 20 runs off 18 balls. It looked like LSG would pull off another successful run-chase against CSK, but Moeen Ali’s four-wicket haul brought them back into the contest.
Ali dismissed Rahul, Mayers, Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis to finish with figures of 4/26 in four overs. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner also bowled an economical spell of 1/21. MS Dhoni did not use Ravindra Jadeja much. The left-arm spinner only bowled one over, conceding 14 runs without taking any wickets.
