WWE Universe is eagerly awaiting the return of one of the top prospects looking to thrive in the biggest way during his second run in the WWE, The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. Now, it seems like he will return as a surprise entrant in WWE Royal Rumble 2023.
Cody was released from the company back in 2016 after being involved in lower and upper mid-card feuds for much of his career. He went to reinvent himself after his WWE exit and made a huge name for himself on the independent circuit and was a crucial element in the formation of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, serving as Executive Vice President and on-screen performer.
He went on to have an excellent run with AEW, putting the company on the map and reigning as a 3-time AEW TNT Champion. However, after failed negotiations, The American Nightmare and his wife Brandi Rhodes left the company in 2022.

It wasn’t long enough that the hottest free agent resurfaced back to the WWE as the mystery opponent of Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 38 under the American Nightmare gimmick. Cody made his intentions clear that his second chance in the WWE was only focused on winning the World Championship to pay tribute to his legendary father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. He would go on to continue his feud with Rollins for the next few months, not before going down with a torn pectoral muscle injury ruling him out of action.

But it looks like Cody might have given a hint on his return timetable. Cody Rhodes’s latest interview with TMZ seemingly confirmed his return at next year’s Royal Rumble, potentially in the over-the-top-rope battle royal as a surprise entrant, as many fans have speculated for last few months and pointed out by Cody during the interview.
