The former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is not happy about the fact that the veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been completely sidelined from India’s scheme of things in T20I cricket. Shami has not played even a single T20 international game for India since the last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE, where India got eliminated from the group round.
Virender Sehwag, who was analyzing India’s Asia Cup performances on Cricbuzz recently, said that it’s understandable to look at the young fast bowling options for the T20 format of the game, but when two of the senior fast bowlers of the team, Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, were injured for the Asia Cup, Shami could have been reconsidered.
Sehwag is of the opinion that a team always needs experienced players in the big tournaments and given the fact that the pitches on which the T20 World Cup games will be played in Australia are likely to be fast and bouncy, Mohammed Shami can be a very useful addition to the bowling line-up of India because of his pace and high arm bowling action.
Indian team management considers Mohammed Shami only for test and ODI cricket now
The Indian team management has decided that they would consider Shami only for two formats of the game now and not T20I cricket because of his age and workload. Shami is over 30 now and bowls a lot of overs in test cricket.

The decision to keep Shami away from one format of the game was taken long back by the new Indian management and they have stuck to their decision, but Virender Sehwag reckons it’s a wrong thought process and that decision needs to be revisited.
India is likely to announce their squad for the T20 World Cup on the 15th or 16th of September and Mohammed Shami still doesn’t seem to be in contention to make the squad in the place of one of the young fast bowlers.
